I'm working on a father/daughter project - 1950 Canadian Made 1434 (3800) with a dump box. The rear end seems to be geared to only go 30mph max. I heard that Canadian rear ends have axles and pots specific to those rear ends and cannot be swapped out with US-made ones. Is this correct? How can I identify what rear end I have? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

It should have a 5.14 rear end
You can drive it about 50-55 mph
Don’t be shy
I have one of mine in my back yard right now full of construction waste, it’s a 9433 but would have the same rear end. I drove it 105 km from my farm two days ago
I kept it between 80-90 kmph (50-55 mph)
Constant the whole way

Check the rotations per mile specification on your specific rear tires, multiply that by the rear end and that gets you the engine rpm for 60mph in highest 1:1 gear

Example:
620 rotations per mile tire
be 620x5.14= 3200 rpm for 60mph
So going only 50-55 is about 2670-2930 rpm

I think I have 255/85 r16 tires on it but they are fairly worn down so new they would have been about 610 rotation per mile
Original tires on a 1434 were almost 34 inches diameter
So don’t expect to go as fast if you have a smaller 30.x inch diameter tire now.

Also don’t be afraid of the front tire hitting the fender
Mine look like they have about 1/2 inch clearance at full turn
But they have never touched metal in 70 years
I have stock suspension and non of the box weight goes onto the front axle in any meaningful way
And I’ve been running on rough pot holes and fields and ditches in Saskatchewan.

As far as I know the issue is you can’t swap only the ring and pinion gears with USA models because the bolt pattern is different on the gear itself, the whole rear end internals will swap is my understanding.

Looking at the ends of the rear axle it looks to be an Eaton HO52 but having photo's of the front/rear of the rear differential would be helpful. 2ManyTrucks is correct, would need to swap the entire carrier if wanting to go to the 4.11. The 4:57 would be easier to locate, I believe.

Hi Ron, welcome to the Stovebolt site.
It took a while but I managed to find a 4:10 complete rear axle assembly out of a 67 to 72 3/4 ton they are out there. Check out the tech section on this upgrade lots of information to help you with it.
Good luck in your search.
