Hi all, making the rounds to the appropriate forums introducing myself. My name is Dave and I am going to be turning my 1948 1 ton into a 1960's style gasser. Just sold a 51 chevy hardtop gasser and looking to do the same to this truck.
plans are: 355 sbc dual quad tunnel ram 700R4 Ford 8.8 rear axle with 3.73 posi.
I am by no means an expert, so I will be leaning on this group a lot. It's only my second car I have built. I am also great at stereos and wiring so hopefully I can help there as well.
Is it for being a novelty of winning races? If for winning I can give you a bunch of suggestions, most of which you won't like. If for a novelty, forget it. Nice old truck either way.
I love the Gasser look, I have been to several of the Southern Gassers meets and they are COOL to watch, practical NO... With a Gasser it's all about stance and weight transfer, keeping the truck pointed straight is the issue. I like where your going with this and will be following along closely.

I'm looking forward to this 1 ton gasser build! Seen a guy run a '56 3600 done up as a gasser, still 8 lug front and back. Was going good until he snapped the driveshaft in the burnout box

Biggest engine available in a '56 truck was 155hp. The driveshaft didn't have a chance.
