The whole point of a "patina" is that it's the natural state of a car that's been ignored for many years. Leave it alone and let it continue aging.

That's a great idea if you can keep it inside of a climate controlled garage. I can't get away with that in my regular garage with the humidity we have around here.

After reading the posts here I have a change of mind on the clear coat. In the past I have seen folks use either CLR or vinegar on the body to take care of the rust, I'd do that first then I'd use straight Carnuba car wax to prevent more rust and deterioration.
Kicking self for selling off my Taskforce trucks. Still looking for an LCF or conventional big bolt in decent shape.
As of 10-26-2022, A 55.2 Taskforce long bed now the work begins

There’s nothing wrong with making the value judgment that the degree of wear of a given vehicle finish is at a desirable stage , and taking measures to arrest the wear at that point.
How to go about that arresting and preservation, that’s the question at hand.
Age 68 is not too late to start hot rodding , right?

By keeping it in a garage, washing it, and hardly ever driving it, you've accomplished the task of arresting further degradation. Maybe another owner will decide to properly restore the vehicle. No need to apply a finish over rust, faded paint, and exposed primer.
