I have a 49 one ton. It came to me with no tailgate or rear bumper. I was told that the one tons came from the factory without tailgates or rear bumpers. Most pictures I’ve seen of them have tailgates and bumpers. Were these add-ons or was my was my source incorrect?
I do want a tailgate. Will a 3100/3600 gate fit on a one ton 9 ft bed? Thanks in advance.

Hi
The one ton with metal pickup box came from factory with the tailgate as far as I know
The documentations shows it drawn with tailgate
All model tailgates are the same size for 47-53 range and I’m fairly sure were identical metal thickness and construction so any 1/2 ton tailgate will work for your 1 ton. (F*rd trucks of the same generation use a different size tailgate between 1/2 and 3/4 and up trucks so worrying about different tailgate sizes is understandable).

BTW -- 2ManyTrucks, as usual, is quite correct. The 3804's came from the factory with tailgates but not with rear bumpers, which were a dealer installed option (or after market).

The 3804 bumpers (and brackets) are unique -- 3100 and 3600 bumpers will mount up (with some wiggling and application of brute force), but they are not interchangeable. The 1-ton bumpers are noticeably thicker.

1-ton bumpers can be had reasonably priced from 3100 or 3600 owners who bought them and later discovered they don't fit their trucks ... wink

BTW, for what’s it’s worth, Mr Milliman is also correct! But then again, when isn’t he!

John, should we expect a new post in the parts for sale forum for a 1 ton bumper ?

Ron -- Not from me -- I've got correct bumpers on *my* 3804 ... wink And they are *not* for sale.

Jim -- You are too kind. But if you check with Peggy, I'm sure she could provide you with a veritable catalog of instances.
