Hi, I”ve been looking at hood ornaments for a GMC one ton and noticed that some are labeled underneath as GMC - 3 and GMC - 4. Wondering what the difference is. My hood has the two bolt positions underneath in the center flanges. Before I commit I thought I’d ask for advice. Also did the 250’s have ornaments or were the bent flanges just a standard production alignment feature?
One correction: I just looked under the hood and noticed there is only one set of flange bends. So maybe no ornament for this old 250. Meaning one hole, if any. I’m still guessing it could be for assembly or jig alignment.

I'm not a GMC guy but I did look around and did not find a 1951 GMC 250 with a hood ornament. That feature on the underside of the hood, my 1954 3604 has the same feature and I'm fairly certain it not for use for the hood ornament as it mounts much further forward on the hood and mounts over the center strip. There may be a "parts & accessories " book for the 1951 that may list (if available) hood ornaments as an accessory. That would provide a GMC part number for the ornament if there is one.

If you are looking for a "new" hood ornament for your GMC you might check with forum owner OldCarKook (Rob English) on the OldGMCtrucks forum. Another forum member "Lars" has made a few reproductions of the GMC hood bird. He is in Germany, so he sent them to Rob to sell. I understand that they are very nice work. Not cheap, but if you are doing a real restoration probably less than finding an old one, getting the pitting fixed and a quality chrome job.
Rob can be reached at rob@oldgmctrucks.com Tell him I sent you and he'll jack the price 25%.

Hey guys, you are all outstanding. I hadn’t checked in for a while and with so many views and no responses in the beginning I certainly didn’t expect the results you posted. I started thinking It’s a truck! Maybe it didn’t have a hood ornament. But thanks for sharing your knowledge. Some good leads and pictures. Let you know what develops

Hi Ron,sorry that I haven’t listed in the Gallery yet. Guess you can spot an unfamiliar picture when you see it. It has a dump and thanks to guidance from Hot Rod Lincoln, it has brakes! Stove Bolt Forum has been a wonderful help since I got the truck three years ago. I’ll get over to the Gallery forum and see what I can do.
Nice bed arrangement. Others often put the bolt heads on the inside so freight will not get scratched, of course that does nothing for getting driver scratched on the outside!

I put the stovebolt heads used on my '52 stake bed on the inside and used black acorn nuts on the outside after having the threaded end of the bolts rip into my arms as I walked by it seems like a thousand times over the years.
