Suspending the engine/trans assembly without some support at the bell housing will break the bell housing. You'll need a 1961 V8 bell housing with the hydraulic clutch setup, with the throwout fork and slave cylinder on the passenger's side. Then it will be a bolt-in swap. Saginaw 4 speeds have a cast iron case- - - -no rear mount should be needed, but a universal tubular mount the hotrod shops sell would be an option. DO NOT do the front/rear mount setup without supporting the bell housing.

I just installed a Gen V 454 in a 66 c10 with manual clutch I used the original 66 bellhousing & new stock rear motor mounts. Worked very well I’m using a m20 4 spd with a 66 11 inch clutch. It all fits like it came from the factory that way. FYI, if your 61 came with a 235 6 cyl, you’ll need to get a v8 bell housing. If you’ve got a later 230 or 250 6, then tha by will fit your 302

Assume we are talking about 302 small block V8 and not 302 in-line GMC 6.
