My new engine should be here this week. It comes with a PS and AC pump.

I have not found anywhere that I can buy a AC or PS kit minus the pumps. Anyone have an idea where I can do this? Makes no sense to have to buy the pumps, but I may have to and then hopefully sell them.

Last I looked, Old Air Products sold their kits with or without the compressor.

Old Air doesnt have it listed that way on the website anymore, but when I put the system in my 78 I was doing a couple odd things and when I called they built me a kit with the pieces I wanted and the kit price.

A far cry from Vintage Air who just told me I was stupid for modeling my system after the GMT800 design instead of their 60s design.

You can guess which company I am planning to buy the setup for my 58 from :p

I do know people who have been very happy with Vintage Air, so I would not tell people to avoid them. They just lost me as a customer.

Vintage Air took care of me over the phone by providing me with all of the hoses and fittings (to be cut to length and installed by me) for ordering their A/C system without their compressor. He asked me what kind of compressor I was using so that he could include the correct fittings. He took my credit card number over the phone and had the kit to my house within a week.
I'm guessing that Fibonachu didn't have the good fortune of having Javier answer the phone when he called their service department number.

Hmmm.. a couple months ago I am positive Vintage said no to that request? I will have to check notes now.

I will try both again and see what they say. Looks like I need to keep my alias in dealing with CPP. They seem to be the go to for PS upgrades.

Spoke to both vintage and old Air.

According to salesman Old air has a factory style AC controls and dash venting. OEM dash venting would require cutting, but that interests me. I don't see any pics of this on their site.

Vintage air requires me to use my controls which were not in great shape, but doable. They are cheaper, but have the lower venting.

CCP is impossible to get ahold of to ask about buying a PS kit without the pump.

Have you considered doing an EPS conversion instead? It has been discussed around here a few times. Coilover had a decent write-up past fall.

That is what I am probably going to end up with on my 58.

Yes. I have read about them and the writeups. Just not ready for that kind of modification.

Not trying to be a smart aleck, but is the EPS more of a modification than the CPP PS setup? The EPS goes inline with your steering column so you have to shorten it appropriately. The CPP system moves the steering box, requires frame mods, column mods, and a custom drag link.

That said, looking back at your original question, you already have the hydraulic pump for it so you are pretty well committed to a hydraulic system. I looked through my catalogs last night and I don't see anyone that offers a power steering kit without the pump.

The instructions for the CPP system show where to drill the holes for the steering box. If you picked up the box (that isn't included in the kit anyway) and mount it with the two frame bolts you could use it as a template to make your own mount for the third bolt.

You would have to make your own hoses, but it would save you the price of the kit and the hassle of the extra pump.

Since power steering was an option in '66, maybe look for parts that will simply bolt on?
