Went by the cheapest gas place in our county this morning -- gas was $3.59 and diesel was $5.75 (Avenue, MD)

What are you guys squawking about? Regular is $4.75 - $4.90 up here and Diesel 30-50 cents higher. Although not as high as John saw. $5.75 for Diesel is just WRONG!!
But I'm happy I don't live off the road system up here. People in Nome probably pay $7-8/gallon.

One problem here it can change 2 or three times a day. Up or down. Since I got home around 2 PM gas has dropped 25 cents to $3.89 gal. A small town 20 miles away it is $4.09. Arkansas reg. $3.214.

As far as diesel goes I know very little but my memory is that diesel in the distant past was cheap UNTIL it became the fuel of choice for over-the-road and farm tractors.

Diesel was cheap until 9/11/2001. All fuel went through the roof during the day. Regular gas went from $1.24 to $1.89 between the first plane and when I got home from work at about 4PM. Was way over $2 by the next morning. It started to come down until "W" said he was going into Iraq & it shot back up & has been up since. Diesel went through the roof at that time because domestic supply was diverted to the war effort. Speculators have kept it up since.

When we bought our used 1990 Dodge/diesel, the fuel was $1.50 per gallon which was 15 cents cheaper than gasoline. Now that $1.50 per gallon is the difference between diesel and gas.
