See the attached pic for write up from the Inliners group about removing the pilot bearing.

Cheers, Dean

This post is in reference to the above posts about removal of the pilot bearing. It’s fine right here.

Powder coated my headlight rings. First time trying the stuff. Sanded and wiped with paint prep but there were still plenty of stubborn spots. Repeated process twice on both rings but ran out of time for a third coat. Long range I want my daily driver to be brown with all trim black. One step closer.

Todays project on the ‘62 C-10 was working on the freshly powder coated grill and headlight buckets to see if I could make them play nice together. At some point in this trucks life it took a fairly significant hit in the grill area spanning the entire length. Both headlight mounting plates (5952970 headlamp assembly) had bends in places they weren’t designed for. Think I got them workable, so now I’m waiting for small parts (adjusters and springs) to finish rebuilding the plates. Should be here tomorrow so I’m hoping to have the grill installed Thursday morning. Then waiting on rear bumper brackets for a Stepside to replace the Fleetside brackets sent by LMC. I’ll be able to put on the new rear bumper then. At that point the truck will be driveable again and I can concentrate on the little fiddley stuff.

I finished hooking up the parking brake cables and got them adjusted. Then I installed new cowl-to-hood anti-squeak strips and began installing the inner fender anti-squeak material. How the heck are you supposed to get the new staples through the existing holes when you can't see them!?

1962 C-10. Today’s project was to complete the grill and install it. Got all the needed parts in yesterday’s mail. Put the new headlight adjusters in the mounting plate and riveted a couple of brackets. Installed the mounting plate and the headlight buckets. That was this mornings work. After lunch and a short nap Ms Kathy helped me bolt the grill assembly back onto the truck. Nothing ever goes easily on my projects and this was no different. A bit of manipulation was required to get the 8 mounting bolts lined up and screwed in. Done with that part by dinner time. Back out after a good meal and put the headlights back in and roughly adjusted. Bezels were next and went on fairly easily.
Couple of breaks in the process to shoot some paint on the old rear bumper. Tomorrow’s project.

Did you compare the old bumper to the new one with the possible misdrilled mounting holes?

Yesterday I did a LOT of measuring. Brackets are correct, bumper is wrong. Don’t know what it fits but it is certainly not a ‘62 C-10 Stepside.

Interesting. So the bumper isn't misdrilled, they sent the wrong one and/or mislabeled it in the catalog.
