To create a link to another website, simply follow the steps. This can be done on your Smart phone or computer.
1. Pull up the web page you want. Copy the URL of that page (CTRL and the C key at the same time). The link will be copied to your clipboard. Some web sites (like YouTube) have a "SHARE" button. When you "smash that share button," a dialog box appears with the URL. When you hit "copy," the URL is copied to the clipboard.
2. On Stovebolt, create a new post or move to reply to a post. If a reply, choose FULL EDITOR at the bottom of the dialog box.
3. Type your comments.
4. Put the cursor where you want the LINK to appear within the text of your comments. Usually at the end of your comments, but somewhere in the middle will work too.
5. Next, click the link icon -- it looks like the EARTH WITH A CHAIN LINK. (Earth=Web / chain link=link)
6. A little window will appear on your screen with https:// in the box. Click inside and erase the https:// so the box is completely blank. The cursor will still remain in the box. Now, PASTE (CTRL and the V key at the same time) the web address that is saved on your clipboard. The URL appears inside the box. [With a smart phone, a touch of the screen inside the box should result in a pop-up option of “paste” on the screen. It does the same thing.]
7. You should now see the web address inside the little box. Hit the enter key or OK button. The little window is now blank and waiting for you to assign a TITLE (name) for the LINK. Type a title or description -- something like: "images to Homecoming" or even: "LINK TO VIDEO" inside that box. Then hit enter or OK.
8. All of this should result in special characters appearing within the text of the post that will result in a link. For a YouTube video, omit "http://" and just use "www.filename.com so that the video is not embedded (but the link is there -- a YouTube thing!).
9. Complete your post and then test (Preview Post) to make sure the link works properly.

In step 6! where you erase the https://, would it be possible to have that deleted from the script? In my experience posting links, I have always had to delete it. My take of this, is the https:// was inserted into the script so you didn’t have to type it in, when and if you manually type the web address in. Most links are so long (Especially linking parts from a Vendor), that I couldn’t possibly remember them, even when I had a young mind.
Not a big deal, but I remember when I first tried linking websites, it took me several tries before I realized the there were double https:// ‘s. I thought it was just a iPad issue but now since Jay so generously donated his time to write up a awesome guide, I realize it effects all of us. Just a thought!

Thanks Jay for all the hard work.
FWIW - When I copy and paste a web link I want to post, I don't edit the link until it is actually pasted into the dialog box. Before hitting "Post Reply", I edit the "http" to read "hxxp", leaving everything else intact.
When accessing the post to select the link (at least using a computer), I:
Right click the posted link Select "Copy" Go to web browser link bar and Right click (I like to open a new window to do this so I can close when done separate from the Stovebolt window already active) Select "Paste" Then edit "hxxp" back to "http" and hit enter
The re-edited link takes you to the web site/video in a new window to use/view as desired.
Hopefully this has not muddied the waters for anyone.
Can't say how any of this works on an iPad, iPhone, or Android phone as I have no first hand experience.
Maybe others will share their methods and shortcuts???

Others have LINK or something similar to that for the "text." I use to print "see link" until people got use to it. Or so I thought.
The link is universal in these forums and the static pages. The color for a link is set (blue) and once the computer operator has visited the link, it turns purple. It was a problem when we wanted a link in a dark background. Couldn't see it.
What say y'all??

The second link is the same as the first one, but https is changed to hxxps. The forum software does not recognise this as a link, so it just shows the text.
The third link is a straight paste. The forum software recognises this as a link.
BTW, when the link box pops up, the "http://" is already highlighted. All you need to do is right click to paste, and the highlighted part goes away on its own. One less step than actually having to delete it.
Also, "Control + C" for copying stuff allows you to copy at website that doesn't allow you to right click. There used to be a lot of those things around but I'm sure folks gave up trying to police it.
For those not following, Jay's video on How to create a link [youtube.com] does over it. There are a few ways to go about it but the nuts and bolts of it are there.
My mouse in squeaky so I do it different ways depending on my frustration level.
In these posts here, you'll see using the link with a word or series of words, lets the reader know where the link is coming from. (See image #1) If the link is coming from Stovebolt, nothing added in that link line. (See image #2)
Knowing where the link came from helps alert the reader. Sometimes that helps in the reader finding their way back home to Stovebolt ... or we lose them for awhile.
One tip that may help when "highlighting" anything: one click on a word "selects" the word. Rapid fire click (usually 3 for me) will "select" the entire line. In the URL window, if the entire line doesn't seem to "select," just try the rapid fire click, then control-c.
Of course, you can always drag the mouse curser to get what you are wanting. Sometimes for me, doing it that way, I leave off the first number or letter. See mouse issues above.

This seems to be my preferred method unless one click does it. I think that stems from my wife sleeping close by to where my laptop sits. I don't want to wake her up by being a mad clicker.
