If all else fails, is there still one mounted on the opposite bed side?
Could take measurements to help search on line for a new one (glad to help if needed), or you could even remove and take to your local FLAPS and see what they have. Several FLAPS carry multiple sizes/types of replacement door strike latch posts in their common hardware sections.
Ron if it is a Mar-K tailgate this is probably what you are looking for. The instructions refer to it as a latch striker. Be sure to get the 5/16 bolt that attaches it to the bedside. Its not a standard part you can buy at the hardware store. Its made by Mar-K

I went to NAPA today but they were closed. Then I remembered this was a specialty part, I am assuming made by the MAR K or sourced by them. Waiting for a return Email.
Still waiting for Mar K to call back. I have in mind how I can make one. Basically, the part is a bolt 2 washers, and a piece of tubing. I am sure Lowes has electrical tubing I could down. When it is screwed together it is only 1 inch long.
