Oh boy. It would be much better if he'd shown up a month ago before the heat/humidity set in. That's not going to be any fun.

I tried to talk to my uncle about a heart transplant in his 70 XKE. He wants nothing of it even though his engine has not turned over since 1988 or so.
Man that engine fits so well. I wonder how the unibody holds up to real power.
1966 C-10 Step Side. 283, 4spd, 3.73 gear. 60K miles prior to restoration. 507 Paint Code. Currently in 10,000 pieces. Transmission is done! Rear Suspension is done! Wheels are done! Bed bodywork is done! Soon to order a 383 crate.

XKE is not XKE without the stock engine.

That wiring photo looks like a bowl of spaghetti exploded in there! You'll have your hands full getting that all sorted out.

Ron the only drawback on replacing a Brit engine with a sbc is your driveway will get rusty with nothing leaking oil on it everyday.

Ferris. Did you note the struts from the cowl to the spring towers and then on to a 1.5x1.5 steel angle iron at the core support? The Ford Mustang called this an "Export Kit". Don't know if it works but sure looks "engineery".

I'm with Ron (for once) ... other than the whole Shelby Cobra thing, I believe Brit cars need to keep their Brit engines. Same with German cars -- need to keep their (air cooled) German engines.
German airplanes with Brit engines, such as the HA-1112 Buchon , is a notable exception

I had a 1960 MGA roadster for 49 1/2 years and had very little trouble with it. Most of the issues were self-inflicted. Granted it only had 79000 miles on it but it had 43000 when I got it and the first year I put 16000 on it driving from my duty station in Alabama to central Indiana at least once a month, 489 miles each way.
