Years ago someone on this website got deathly ill from breathing brake cleaner. I use it with good ventilation & turn my head the other way. George

I think it's the same toxic gas as when you burn refrigerant, phosgene gas, bad stuff.

Breakkleen is expensive here so i buy it by the case when on sale and also keep carb clean on the bench.
Buckshot I love your post ....now i know whats ailing me.....plus I've breathed a lot of m.e.k., chromic acid and cleaned many parts in my tank with varsol.....oh, and spraying asbestos along with coating with formaldehyde.
I'm a lot more careful these days but still glow in the dark.

I have COPD, mild I am glad to say. But when I was diagnosed I thought HOW. But has this post points out we all did, that is called stupid. I worked on farms when I was a teenager and breathed all the dust and other things that were generated by farming activity. Then when I got older I worked on my truck and breath a lot of grease remover and break clean. I spent hours in the attic of this house installing insulation. I never wore a mask until covid came along. So that is how. Do we think with all the regulations imposed on young people today that they will be healthier?

I was in Walmart yesterday looking for some Rotella (which is really hard to find right now). Their brand of brake cleaner is less than $3/can. I snagged one of those along with a gallon of the house brand 15w40.
I’ve actually read good things about Walmart’s oil. Manufactured by Warren and meets all the important specs.

I have used the Walmart brand with good results, seems a little stronger that most of the others. I don't care for the O'Reilly's brand, seems a bit watered down compared to the others. Years ago the Military allowed us to use Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK), that stuff would clean anything, of course they stopped that too.
