Three cute girls were locked out of their pickup in the Walmart parking lot and of course some young guys were assisting them. The door remote was not working and they decided they needed a ride to the Batteries Plus store to see if new batteries would fix their problem. I walked over and held out my hand for the remote that was on a key fob along with the key. Put key in mechanical door lock and opened door. They did not know such a thing was possible. We're in push button electronic world.

This is so common, that even my wife was panicked one morning because she could not get into her car last summer. Late for her hair appointment she conscripted me into looking for the other set of keys, and wanted me to drive the 8 miles in to town to get a battery at NAPA for her key set. I went outside, unlocked her door with the mechanical key, started the car and drove her car to NAPA and bought the batteries for the key set while she was upstairs looking for the other keys.

The real punch line Evan is, I reached in through the open window and opened the door.

Back in the pre-remote days I kept a spare door key behind the license plate, drilled out so the attaching screw would go through it. All I needed was a dime, or my Swiss army knife to pull the screw.

I didn't get the one about the convertible. I've had several convertibles and I never found it funny when I locked myself out of them when it started to rain. Ruined a couple of good interiors that way ...
