All the blocks are the same for the 230-250s, so years don't matter, the heads from the older engines will swap on to new blocks with no problems. The late model heads are not worth using as most are cracked, the none cracked ones do use a two barrel carb and likely run fairly decent if you can live with the smog equipment. As mentioned, the 292 is a little longer due to the heavy duty water pump, it is about 2" taller due to the longer stroke. The 194-230-250-292 heads all interchange. The 292 uses offset motor mounts, they bolt right in with the correct passenger side motor mount, the 292 has a mid engine fuel pump where the 230-250 has a fuel pump closer to the front of the engine.

Thanks for all the replies. I bought a 250 from a friend of mine. I tore it down this after noon and it looks good. I ordered a re ring kit for it.

I thought all 194-230-250-292 were the same length except perhaps more V belt pulleys?

I believe you are right Ed, they do have more pulleys on balancers.

79 broncoowner Learned that 292 will crack between the lifter bores if overheated.Took a while to discover this,that was in 1970 was in a combine got way too hot.
