The best way is if you did any backups, you can restore from one of those backups. The next is to reinstall the operating system. You may lose some or all of your data.
If you have a Best Buy near you, you can take it there and their “Geek Squad” will be able to help you.

What I do is put all my data in a separate folder (called Data  ) that gets backed up occasionally. Then if I do need to reformat the drive and reinstall the OS, the data is safe. Still a PITA because all the apps need to be reloaded too. There used to be a function in Windows that you could restore a previous version, but only if you had set up "restore points". Most people don't do that. Phil's suggestion of letting the Geek Squad have a crack at it is a good one. Although it's probably not going to be cheap, and they probably won't get it back the way you want it.

Good suggestion but they are 55 miles away. I went to one of the local computer fix-it places. The sign said to be back at one. I went back a 2:30 sign still said 1:00 must be a standing lunch hour sign. Will go back first of the week. Have a safe New Year.

Do a "system restore" Most computers automatically back up information to a particular date and time, and restoring the system to that point only dumps info that happened after that. It's not difficult to do for anyone with a rudimentary knowledge of computers. I can even do it and I'm about as computer-illiterate as anyone on the top side of the grass!

If you have a Windows based computer you can restore to a "Restore Point" that Windows by default sets every so often. I have no idea if Mac or other OSs do the same. I've restored my computer to an earlier time several times over the years when things went irreparably amiss.

In some even most ways you are correct but it is what it is. When I take pictures they automatically transfer to my computer and tablet. I switched to android when windows 10 was getting a bad rep. Depending on the day even the time of day I say to myself, self take it to a professional to fix the issues.
