Moparguy:

On our last camping trip, one of our neighbors had was was obviously a diesel Jeep Cherokee. I never got a chance to ask the guy what he had under the hood and how he did it. This was a 90s era XJ Cherokee.

Any idea what swap that might have been? From what I can gather, even a 4BT in this platform is tough to do without significant suspension mods. His was a fairly stock-ish looking Cherokee.

We had a 2 door vinyl seat Cherokee years ago. Was as reliable as an Estwing hammer and is on my “rigs I never should have sold” list. Those things are fairly affordable nowadays. Thought about nabbing one as part of my de-evolution project. A diesel swap would make a really nice end-of-the-world rig. But even a fuel injected 90s XJ is a level of complexity that I can manage.

Cummins has a 2.8 turbo 4 cylinder crate engine package that's designed for swaps here. [cummins.com]

If that's what the Jeep had, it'd be very interesting to look under the hood and chat with the owner.

JW51 Are you worried that our government could "turn Off" our modern electronics ?? How long if push came to shove before any one of us would slap a point distributor in one of the old trucks and head into town !! Now once you got in town might be other problems to deal with !!!
