now I have 2. First, why have tires gotten so much bigger on cars and trucks? Second, why do electric cars have to be so fast? Would it not be better to extend the range then take away some of the off-the-line speed?

The tires have gotten bigger in diameter because the wheels have gotten bigger to accommodate larger brakes. The range depends on the driver's driving style. It's no different that a gas powered car. A Prius will only get 15MPG if you drive it like you're running from the law. My Charger gets 35MPG when I drive it like an adult. The listed range of an EV is a best case scenario and will go down in real world driving same as an internal combustion vehicle. The more gentile you drive it the less it goes down.

You got me thinking. Now I have some questions. Who shot JR? What is the meaning of life? And the big one, if a Pontiac has a Buick engine, is it really a Pontiac?

Dave, you much have more time your hands than I do but that is nigh on impossible. I watched a video on a Tesla X and also a 70s Mercedes with 14-inch tires.

Why do we park on a Driveway and drive on a Parkway?

A lot of people including me like "off the line speed", as you put it.

Tiny I believe has it right about the brakes being the reason why wheels and tires are larger.. .my thinking back when bigger started was for sales .. make a new look ,, make a money making fad for the wheel/tire business .

Directions are just another mans Opinion

How long is a stream? How deep is a mud puddle? How far is it to England true or false?

The electric car thing reminded me of a pic my son in law sent of him smoking the tires off their Nissan Leaf when they were ready for new tires on it. Seems he wanted to use the rest of the tread up with a demonstration of the torque it had. He was getting zero range at the time.

Wheel diameter and IQ are inversely proportional.
