Hey fellows. I got out of the USAF in 1976. In 1978 my apartment was broken into and my Dog Tags were stolen. I don't think the goverment will replace them unless your still enlisted. Anyone ever have to get a replacement set?

Contact your local American Legion. They can tell you how/where to get it done.

My Uncle William Schlacht's WWII dog tags and chain hang from my rearview mirror in my 39 Chevy Truck.

If you're near a military base and know someone still on duty, ask them if they can make you a set as a favor to a veteran. I recall that each installation had a machine that would stamp out dogtags. Or maybe it was just at induction centers. But it's worth an ask.
