Back to my LS musings.....

There probably isn’t a simple answer to this (depends on what vehicle), but how do folks deal with swapping a modern engine/tranny into a vehicle with one with a torque tube driveline?

It’s my understanding that the torque tube itself is integral to the rear suspension in some old cars.

They remove the entire driveline and swap/adapt to a later setup.

I LS swapped mine with full factory driveshaft on my 3/4 ton. It had the half torque tube. Kept the truck bone stock from the transmission back. Used it like that for a while until I swapped in the borg warner OD trans then had a new shaft made up.

I get the rear end swap and the switch to open driveshaft. What I don’t quite understand is how much one has to re-engineer the rear suspension (think cars that have something other than a parallel leaf spring setup).

Not sure about any of the cars but the truck is pretty straightforward to bolt together any combo that you want. I have a 2001 engine bolted to a 70’s v8 truck bellhousing bolted to the factory 318 3 speed column shifted trans. When I built the truck I actually put the torque tube and rear shaft in and located the motor mounts to suite the factory driveline. Then I welded up the engine mounts and was good to go.
