We went to a minor league baseball game on the 4th before the fireworks show and I and a few others nearby were surprised when "America the Beautiful" was sung before the game instead of the National Anthem.
I have to admit it really bummed me out. Most local talent do a very nice job on the Anthem, and it's nice to hear them sing it.

What is the national anthem of England? I have heard that there is no official one.

websearch and Wikipedia say no. But there have been discussions in Parlament about adopting one. But it does say God save the Queen is treated as the national anthem. When you read different opinions you go, HUH, and move on. Mainly because they differentiate between England and the United Kingdom.

To Kevin's point above ...

When compared side by side ... I have long wondered how we ended up with "The Star Spangled Banner" instead of "America the Beautiful" as a national anthem... ohwell

ATB seems more broadly applicable as a national anthem ... to me, anyway. Prettier tune, too.

My allegiance is to this great Nation of ours, not a (quasi) randomly selected song about one battle in a nearly forgotten war a long time ago ...

Just sayin...

And while we're on the subject ... I say we replace Uncle Sam with ...

Something heart warming is when the PA system went out during the American Anthem at a Toronto Mapleleafs hockey game the CANADIANS immediately sang the remainder.
