Am I missing something here? The word "muffler" suggests that the thing is supposed to reduce noise, not enhance it! Do "muffler" manufacturers have a secret investment portfolio in hearing aid companies? They should!

"get off my lawn punks!"

I got out of the "rumble & roar early on after I started dating my now wife of 38 + years. Never regretted it except every now & then when I can her her holler at me!

We got a 1950 with a sbc back from the muffler shop earlier this week. He chose Turbo mufflers which are whisper quiet except under WOT mode. SO much nicer to be around than the Flowmasters, Magnaflows, and all the other "shake the dust from the ceiling" ones many choose. By the way, the name "turbo" was given to these mufflers since they first appeared on the turbo charged Corvair Spyders.

I have dual Flowmaster on my 1954 235 and have had since 2006. I thought they were 44 but maybe 40s too long ago to remember.

Welllll, I like my Smitty's. For a long time I ran straight pipes on the 37 but my wife said if she was going with me on a long trip I'd better quieten it down. (It was obnoxious) so the Smitty's have done the job and since they're burnt out a little they sound nice.......especialy as WOT......lol

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.

I think in Britain, a muffler is called a silencer. I used to like a bit of a rumble but now I prefer quiet.

My 04 Ram 1500 gets driven 1000+ miles per week most of the time. I got tired of listening to the rumble of the performance muffler it had when I bought it, and installed an OEM type. The lack of noise is a wonderful thing, although I did have to turn down the volume on the sound system quite a bit!

On my '59 Big Bolt when they put the 283 in it they ran twin pipes straight down and back with a glass pack on each one. It's not LOUD loud, but one of the things on my to do list is to replace those with regular mufflers.
Like the others, I didn't mind a little rumble in my younger days, but now I prefer it a little quieter.
