So among other things, the inner fender wells of my C60 are really suffering from the PNW damp, it's absolutely destroying the Chevy part of my Carpenter coach school bus. I don't know what they put on the Carpenter coach metal, but it's not rusting notably at all-and I've even been inside the body as when I cut the holes for the RV refrigerator vents. It's a complete conversion and I live in it, so I'm pretty sure that since it was the Johnson era, there's a nice safe lead based coating inside and it's killing me slowly.. but anyway..

The Chevrolet front clip, however.. not so much. It's really decaying. :-(

I've noticed that I can buy brand new left and right inner fenders (the hood bolts to them, they seem to attach to the firewall with bolts, and also underneath the top edges of the fenders) for a C30. The hood is significantly wider on a C60, but I don't know if they made the width by making the flat, outer beer ledge part of these fenders wider or if they just made a bigger gap between the fender wells and the frame. In terms of length front to back, I never measured but it seems like the six and eight cylinder engines options sit the same, I don't know if the front clip is longer or not.

Are the C30 parts compatible? They're not super cheap, I'd be in it over $500 for the pair, but four generations of my family have participated in the buildout of this bus over three decades. So money's less of an object. I also need at minimum the left fender and a hood.

While I'm at it, there are big rubber bushings that seem to support the front clip, just ahead of where it bolts to the bus body, and they along with their body mounts are also looking pretty destroyed. Is there even a source for medium duty Chevy parts like these? I feel like there's a high end MIG welder purchase in my near future..

Thank you in advance for any resources you could provide.

What year you got? I've got a 1960 C10 driver & a 1960 C60 that is "pasture art". Hoods are the same width.

I've got a 65, and it sure seems like the hood is wider. I could swear I measured the hood of a C20 and it was six inches narrower.. but that was a long time ago.

[edit] my hood is 74 and 5/8" or so wide, measured by opening it and putting the tape measure across from outer edge to outer edge of the lip.

The '62-'66 hoods are all the same whether it is a C-10 or a C-60, the only ones that are different are the Low Cab Forwards. The inner fenders are the same for the C-10 - C-30, C40 and up are different.

Lots of '60 & '61s running around with '63 - '66 hoods as well, not me!

That's what I wanted to know, thank you!

I called Classic Industries today and gave them the width measurements of my hood, and they were very nice and said they would measure and get back to me. Neither of us wants me to buy an $800 hood and have it be wrong.. but wow I'm looking forward to chunks of rust not literally falling off my hood every time I open it!

I measured the bottom lip, outside edge to outside edge, and it seems to vary between 74 1/2" to 75" but that's not a surprise given how old, rusted, and not straight my hood is. It measured 78 5/16" across the widest part of the hood, tape measure across the back and ends at the widest portion of the flare line. I guess I was just nervous about spending that kinda coin and having to pay shipping back on a 150lb hood that was wrong. But anyway..

Kinda figured on the inner fenders. On my bus, the inner fender goes inside of the steering shaft; the box is outside the frame and you can see the whole thing from outside the wheel well. Inside the engine bay, you can't see the steering shaft. On the small trucks, the fender well is outside the steering shaft, which can be seen from inside the engine bay, at least on the ones I've seen pictures of. Dang it. So probably no aftermarket inner fender well love for the big bolt :-(

Call Buds Salvage in Aline, Oklahoma. 1-800-375-2837. They have over 2000 old cars and trucks and are in the wheat belt. They may have every thing you need. I know they ship all over the country.

Well darn, I was hoping to keep Bud’s an Oklahoma secret. nanner But since it’s for a fellow Bolter I guess we can share. Bud’s has been mentioned on Stovebolt before, there is very little he doesn’t have and as forman pointed out he does ship.

Thank you, I will do just that! There is also a place in Idaho that has some old C60 trucks, but geez they think those fenders are gold plated inside!

Any of our big bolt folks know if C60 inner fenders are the same from 1960 - 66?

Not sure as seems front wheel width is narrower from 1963 when they went back to solid front axle.
