The grooves are centered and the oil tube is not plugged.

I do have a 261 head with a plugged oil tube. Should I use parts from that?

You have pre ‘59 rocker assembly and it won’t work without an installed orifice. Pre ‘68 Dave shows how he made and installed this orifice in his article on his website.

I would definitely look at your 261 rocker assembly to see if it has the offset rockers. If it does and there in good shape, I would use them and the closed oil supply tube.

If they have a bit of slop (rocker to shaft) you can buy new shafts.I bought a used rocker assembly (59-62) from eBay and they had quite a bit of slop. The wear was mostly on the shafts so I bought new shafts also from eBay and that tighten things up nicely.

You could even try the rocker shafts from the 848 head. The shafts fit from 41 thru 62. Only the rockers and oil supply tube changed thru the years.

I have new shafts that I was going to use so if the rockers are good, which they should be, I’ll use them then along with the closed oil supply tube.
