I just rediscovered this forum last night while chasing parts. Turns out I joined up 17 years ago!

Anyway, here's my truck. I sort of fell into it, my son had an auto repair shop and someone brought it in for him to get it running. The owner found a newer truck and my son ended up with this one in trade for the work done on it and another rig. I had an old U-Haul truck I wasn't using, so we made a trade.

Thanks! For me, this truck is way more useful than a non running storage shed on wheels. I've used it to haul trash, compost, gravel and various other stuff. It has a 250 in it from a '77 Chevy pickup, and the brake system has been upgraded to a dual master cylinder with booster. Since I got it, I gave it a quickie brush paint job and installed a 3 speed Brownie auxiliary transmission. Next step will be a 3-53 Detroit diesel engine.

I really like the check plate used for the inside of the door. Is that aluminum, steel, stainless or chromed? How thick is the panel?
How has it worked out for you for driving comfort? Would you suggest an arm-rest or does the present handle work out Ok for longer distance driving?
I am fixing my 52 GMC 1 ton dump pickup and the "pressed paper" door panels are missing. I plan to use the truck as intended, not a show project.

James, the aluminum plate is pretty thin, like around 3/32 thick. Very easy to work with. Home Depot sells it. I use the window opening for an armrest, the handle is just to pull the door shut without using the handles. I used the same mounting so if you have armrests they would work in the same place.

My truck is a working truck as well, but I'm making it nicer as I go along.

That's quite the transformation from when you got it. It looks like a completely different truck. thumbs_up

Did you replace the grille, or just paint with silver? It looks straighter than in your first photo. Anyway, looks good.

Thank you for the information, I will try the plate as well. I do not have any arm rests at the present time. Pictures of my truck and the rebuild are in the "tons of fun" forum. Hopefully my truck will look as nice as yours one day. My 52 GMC 9430 is the same Windsor Blue that yours is. Right now I am trying to get it to pass a safety check so I can use it. James S
