There's been talk about food lately and I mentioned the green bean casserole that appears at Thanksgiving and at church pot luck or covered dish meals. That brought to mind those little French fried onions that are put on the top, and I have some news about those to pass along:
Try the Kroger brand. The ones they sell are very good and they come from The Netherlands.
Try the Wal-Mart brand. They're also very good and they come from Mexico.
I think people forget about these, but they're fun. You can sprinkle them on salad, put in soup, on chili dogs, pizza, omelettes (really tasty and not expected), mashed potatoes along with chives and cheese, add them along with canned green chiles and cheddar cheese to cornbread, on spaghetti, lasagna, shrimp etouffee. Oh, boy howdy...now there is a magnificent winter dish. Shrimp etouffee (with rice) and a warm French baguette with some real butter and a cold beer or a glass of red wine. Maybe a small salad with some green olives, cucumbers, radishes, red onions. Eat it mid-day though. Might keep you awake if eaten after 5 o'clock.
