 French fried onions...

There's been talk about food lately and I mentioned the green bean casserole that appears at Thanksgiving and at church pot luck or covered dish meals. That brought to mind those little French fried onions that are put on the top, and I have some news about those to pass along:
Try the Kroger brand. The ones they sell are very good and they come from The Netherlands.
Try the Wal-Mart brand. They're also very good and they come from Mexico.
I think people forget about these, but they're fun. You can sprinkle them on salad, put in soup, on chili dogs, pizza, omelettes (really tasty and not expected), mashed potatoes along with chives and cheese, add them along with canned green chiles and cheddar cheese to cornbread, on spaghetti, lasagna, shrimp etouffee. Oh, boy howdy...now there is a magnificent winter dish. Shrimp etouffee (with rice) and a warm French baguette with some real butter and a cold beer or a glass of red wine. Maybe a small salad with some green olives, cucumbers, radishes, red onions. Eat it mid-day though. Might keep you awake if eaten after 5 o'clock.

They are not hard to make yourself in a deep frier. Wife and I are trying to grow our own horseradish this year. Wonder what that would taste like deep fried?

Ginger Ale mixed with Castor Oil? You could probably sell it at the State Fair of Texas. If we ever have another one.

I love deep-fried onions, as long as they're cut into rings about 1/2 inch thick, and covered in thick beer batter! Those shoestring things in a can, not so much! A long time ago, we tried to do a "Bloomin' Onion" like Outback Steak House serves, bought the special cutter and the batter mix, but the deep fryer just couldn't get the oil hot enough. Jerry

There was a restaurant in Missouri that called onion rings “Carp Lips”.
When Tim (from down under) and I took that road trip a couple years ago, I took him to and Outback Steakhouse. Ordered the Blooming onion. He had never heard of it before. Or the restaurant Outback.

It's all marketing, Don! There's a huge number of Americans who believe all Australians think and talk like Crocodile Dundee. That same bunch probably has the impression that anyone who lives south of Kentucky is a toothless, ignorant redneck whose family tree doesn't branch! Jerry

Jerry Are you attempting to illustrate a simile, or to differentiate between two dissimilar topics?
