I need to replace the Seat Adjusting Rod Grommet on my 1953 GMC. Before I tackle the task the Factory Assembly Manual shows the grommet (attached) but not an exploded view to see what needs to be taken apart. If anyone has replaced the grommet I would appreciate any tips.

The grommet slides onto the rod so you need to get it out of the seat tracks, slide it on and then reinstall with the grommet in the hole as the last step.

All the vendors sell them, when you have the seat out pop in a new one. Here is another one that is out, they get rock hard and on original trucks I never see them in place.

I replaced mine and I believe the proper way is to remove one of the slides to disconnect the rod. I found (while trying to figure out how to disconnect the rod from the slide), if you bend the rod sufficiently you can get it disconnected, slide on the new grommet and reconnect.
