I have a 1986 GMC that needs a new dash pad. Has anyone replaced their dash pad recently? If so, where did you buy the replacement pad that you used and how satisfied are you with the results? Also, what is the level of difficulty with doing this with the windshield in place? Thanks!
LMC truck or any of the reputable vendors of this era truck parts will have A decent pad. If you have one of the common interior colors you can order the pad colored. Otherwise your going to have to paint it.
The glass does not need to come out. You remove the gauge cover by removing the screws surrounding it And the lower cover around the steering column. Then the screws at the bottom of the cover along the dash paint line Lift up front of cover and pull toward you and that will release the clips at the bottom of the glass.
I'm sure there's probably a U-Tube video out there.
Tom, thanks for the info. Have you used one of the LMC dash pads? So installing the replacement would just be a matter of getting the clips lined up properly and then popping the pad into place? I couldn't tell exactly how it is retained by looking at it so your description is a big help.
