Tiny, I was amazed when I first got to ND a few years ago. All my work was in rural to Very rural areas. Folks didn't have water meters and the valves were all in the 7' deep range. We did find the frost line that deep many times. Sounds like you just need to dig in a deeper water line RonR

Tim Down Under needs to send us some pictures of the weather there. It would help us have warm thoughts!

We did find the frost line that deep many times. Sounds like you just need to dig in a deeper water line RonR They are below the frost line for solid soil. The problem is the can the meters sit in is open to the air. It's below grade but open to the air with just a cast iron lid held by gravity. The air is getting cold enough to counteract the natural warming of the soil because there's nothing to stop the air infiltration. Hence my blanket and bucket "cap" over the can. With the snow we got since, covering the cap, it's pretty well insulated from the bitter cold air now.

I went out to put the battery tender on my pickup. It's three degrees colder than it was this morning. It's dangerous cold. Probably the longest 5 minutes of my life.

Now the news is saying we are going to have 3" of snow when we wake up tomorrow morning and at 10:00am the snow starts again with and additonal 8" to 12" of snow. I told my better half to stay put tomorrow.

I don't think by all indicators we are not getting much. I went to the grocery store and they were not that busy and the bread and milk, also paper isles were full.

That last batch of snow went around us and got you guys instead. No complaints here about that, but it's been bitterly cold! The high temp. today was 6 below, and they're predicting 20 below or colder for tonight! Usually we see that kind of weather around New Year's and by now it's starting to warm up a little. They're predicting temps closer to 30 for next weekend, which is closer to normal for this time of the year..

They are saying 8-12 by Wed. I found out yesterday that my new car is not much good in snow. I was backing out of a friend's driveway and got too close to the pile of snow she had shoveled and got stuck. I had put the winter shovel in so I was able to get out after some digging and back and forth maneuvers. One man with a truck stop and offered to pull me out. The big problem is the power management system as soon as I got momentum it would shut the engine down. I am assuming this and if I am wrong and it does not have this let me know. 2017 Buick Encore. The wheels would start spinning and just quit. Maybe I should put snow tires on the 1954 and load up the back end and drive it. Or just stay home, yes that is the ticket.
