On the news last night they said starting Monday afternoon expect 4" of snow and on Thursday another 4" of snow. They say it's the biggest snow storm in 4-5 years. I thought we were going to get through another winter with little snow.

It's colder than a politicians heart and going to get even colder over the next few days.

The talking heads are saying 12”-14” of snow here by afternoon Monday. Supposed to start around midnight tonight. Drifts of 6’ or more and windchills in the -25 range for 36 hours. Son-in-Law is a firefighter and is not looking forward to his 24hr shift starting in about 30 minutes. Space heater fires and car wrecks will keep them running all night. They also run on all medical aid calls along with the ambulance company. Our police officers will be out in it too. Don’t miss those days at all.
Y’all stay warm.

Oh yeah, I remember those 24 hour shifts!

We're in the process of another 3" of snow and several days of temperatures in the -20 to -25 degrees range as well. Wind chills will be well below -30 degrees. Not much relief in sight until late next week. It will be odd to consider 15 degrees a pleasant 'heat wave'!!

I'm with you Martin, I don't miss it one bit!!!

Stay warm and be safe,

Add wreck recovery drivers to the "I'm glad I'm not one anymore" list! Back in the late 1990's I ran the heavy haul big rig for a local towing and recovery business, covering about 30 miles of Interstate 65 just north of the Alabama line. Heavy snow, ice, and 18 wheelers is not a good combination! Getting 40 tons of upside down truck and cargo back on its wheels is no picnic under any conditions, but add a little freezy skid stuff to the mix and it really gets interesting!

It looks like where I live we are on the northern edge but what do the guessoligist know? This is the longest we have had snow on the ground in maybe 10 years.

Was pondering what I needed to do to be ready yesterday; fire wood, got plenty, stovepipe cleaned of creosote, done, non-freeze proof faucets heat tape wrapped, yep, antifreeze OK in everything.......better check. Glad I did, one tractor had a radiator leak last summer and the coolant was really funky. So, fixed the leak and filled with water, plan being to change it a couple times then add Prestone. Well seems I'd forgot the Prestone, all's good now.

Only thing now I'll have to do now for the next few days is chop a hole in the pond ice so the horses can water. Haven't had to do that in several years.

Watching the news last night and now they are calling for 6"-8" of snow starting Monday afternoon and 4" starting on Wednesday night. They have already closed the local schools as a precaustion. The wife and I went to the store yesterday to gathered up some needed supplies, you know.....beer, snacks, coffee, and a couple bags of food. Since it's Valentine's day I bought my wife a gift card for her favorite restaurant (Los Bravos Mexican Restaurant) so we could get out today before the storm hits and keeps us house bound.

Woke up this morning to 4* and 20mph winds. Had 1/2” of snow about 3am which is already drifting. Just (8:30am) started the second wave which is supposed to continue through mid morning Monday and drop another 12”. We will have 4’ to 6’ drifts and the road west of our house will drift closed. We can still get out if we go East. The big challenge is to keep the water lines from freezing and the horse tank full. The weather folks are talking a 14 day snow pack. I’m sick of it already.

Locally they are forecasting 8 below tonight and 12 below Monday night. Our water district is telling people to insulate their water meters even though they are underground. They had several freeze up Saturday. I put an old blanket over the can lid the put a bucket over that with a stone on top of the bucket. That should keep the air out and allow the ground temp to keep the meter from freezing. We are on the edge of the heavy snow. We currently have about 4" with another 3-4 yet to fall.
