New to this great forum - lots of info - thanks.

I am new to this (first post) and have bought a 1952 GMC Canadian built truck. 9434 1 Ton, Serial number 2943409766. Casting number on engine (drivers side) is 3695451 and the serial number for engine listed on plate is XC581052.

truck is in good drivable shape but attempting to start correctly and bought the glove box owners manual and the maintenance manual. But it in my initial viewing and reading multiple posts it would appear that the US and CDN versions are different and possibly the Chevrolet manuals may be more relevant or maybe a combination of the two.

The forum has provided a number of great contacts on where to get parts (thanks). Curious if i should return these books and order others or stay the course - when i asked the seller they could not confirm either way.

hi Bosomworth,

that's a good truck, i have a few very similar, 9430s and 1434s
the block 3695451 is a 216 short side cover babbitt engine, could be the original one, the plate number should be found stamped on the flat machine surface next to the distributor if it is the original engine.

yes that's a chevy engine, your GMC is a Chevy for all intents and purposes.
you will find that things on your truck will show "made in Canada" or "gm Canada" etc... and always consider that the USA truck sometimes had tiny differences so when you order a part for your Canada truck, keep in mind that even if you get the "wrong" part it might be the right part for the USA

check ebay canada, the manuals for the Canadian trucks show up there once in a while

Congratulations on your aw some truck purchase! It is all Chevrolet mechanically. The hood , grill and grill surround are GMC. Ken McGee Auto Literature will probably have an original owners manual if you want one. Most parts in catalogs will be listed under the US designation of Chevrolet 3800. Your motor is uniquely a Canadian 216. That motor was used from 1950 to 52. If you ever need a head gasket, the one that fits is the one listed for a 1950 to 52 235.That is actually a US motor.

Thanks guys. Found other cast number - Yes matching serial numbers so original engine. Will reach out to Ken McGee about manual - actually not far from where I grew up. Also connected with Scott’s super trucks in Alberta and he has the chev manual also. Appreciate the help - I am sure I will have more questions in the future.
