Just picked up a 57 big window that was a started project. Elderly gentleman started but didn’t get the chance to finish it. He was trying to do a power steering conversion. Cut off the upper shock mound and attempted to mount the gear box on the outside of the frame. So now I have no steering and what appears to be a cut off arm by the king pin. I really want to put it back to the original steering. Any suggestions on parts or a diagram or picture on how it was supposed to be in original condition. Looks like he cut off the steering shaft with a hacksaw.

Hy Crude K, welcome, a word of warning, there are two different lengths of steering boxes/ steering shafts in the 1955 through 59 series, 55 and 56 are longer than the 57 through 59 boxes. It sounds like you will also need a new steering arm as well. Those steering boxes have integral shafts and mast jackets there is no joint between the shaft/mast jacket and the steering box, hope that helps.

There is a modern power steering box by CPP that mounts in the original location if you are interested, last few days on here. Still would need to replace the J shaped arm.

Thanks. That helps a lot. I am going to try and find the one for the 57-58. I will probably switch to power steering at some point but for now there are more urgent things that need to be done. There is a shop near me that does a lot of truck steering conversions for AD. They might have the parts I need.
