Since I'm retired now and spending a lot more time in the garage I installed a heater today. Had to run a new 220 line which went pretty quick. The instructions said one lag bolt in the middle of the bracket was good if you wanted to swivel the heater. Seemed a little to flimsy to me so I bolted it to the ceiling with three bolts. This is a 5000 watt heater (Comfort Zone) that is suppose to be good for up to 500 sq ft. My garage is 20X25 so the math works out right on the money. It was 36 degree outside so I set it on medium and after an hour it was up to 58 degrees so that's where I set the thermostat. With a light jacket that's all I need.

5000 watts is about 17,000 BTU's Electric is 100 % efficient so nothing goes up the stack. 58 degrees is nice when it's 36 outside. Minimize opening the doors and plug everywhere you may feel a draft and you should be good to go. I dream of the day I retire and can tinker in the garage.

I've got one of them in my stock room where I keep my steel. Without it
all would turn to rust in the spring when the ceiling sweats for a month.
I keep the stock room at 45°all thur the winter.

You know you live in Indiana, you should have put in a split system in for the hot humid summer.

I assume split system means heat/AC. In the summer months I like the front and back doors open with fans running. Just don't like being boxed in. I want to hear the birds, the traffic, and the neighbors yelling at each other ☺

My house garage is heated and it also has A/C off the house furnace but my shop has neither.

So what do you do in the Winter Ron, spend all the days in front of the
TV watching the soaps????
I tried salamanders in the barn when I first moved in. If I ran that for an
hour and it was like working in a rain forest. H2O....a by product of combustion.
Then it was the wood burner, got tons of Ash trees everywhere you look,
so no shortage of fire wood. Spent half my time in the shop feeding the pig.
Finally got the gas lines run out to the barn a couple of years ago and a gas burner
hooked up to heat 1/2 the barn. Still supplement the furnace with the wood burner
when it's really cold in there.
All that has allowed me to put some time in each day all thru the winter months for
the last 8 years that I've been out at Shangri La.
