I'm not so certain that an ivory/white decal is available for the lid. The closest decal that LMC has for the top of the lid is the 38-0088 filter that everyone has for 55-62 AC canister filters (the lettering is not white/ivory, it's Chevy Blue lettering). Any leads on a white lettering decal to go around the rim of the lid would be appreciated.
Denny,
Your source might be right about the ivory lettering for around the top of the lid - I can still see some light colored lettering around the top (but I cannot read what it said).
I think that was exactly what I quoted a few replies earlier Dave, thanks for reinforcing it. How ever, I believe the brackets were the same. The only difference that I have seen is that the inlet location is in the front on the later ones and they were clamped to the back of the intake to clear the snout on the later air cleaners. If you have any documentation on the brackets being different I’d appreciate seeing it.
Tim, No I was quoting a reply that I got from Gene Schneider (Chevgene) on that, he is as you know, probably on of the more reliable sources when it comes to vintage Chevy's. That said, I would question the filter covers with the wide flange being avalable into the late 50's, which I had mentioned before. I have a couple of those round decals from the vendors on the shelf and the lettering is blue. I don't know if any one reproduces the white ones. The only one with white lettering that the vendors sell is a rectangular decal which they claim is for '58-67 6 & V8. That doesn't ring a bell with me. Denny Graham Sandwich, IL

I found a cannister that had original rust and paint on it along with a drain port in the bottom. It was cheap to buy, I thought it would be great to have the drain port in the bottom to make oil changes a little more clean. I plan to clean it up and swap it out with the one on my truck. The rust was pretty bad. During blasting process, the body revealed its true orange color for a brief instant in some locations. The lid had what appeared to be the Fram decal outline still in place. I'm going to use self-etching primer and paint the cannister Chevrolet engine gloss orange and paint the lid gloss black. I painted the one on my truck gray with a black lid, not knowing what it really should be! I took a picture of another cannister filter on a '56 at a show. I thought it looked good. Here is the example. I have a decal set that I bought that has the FRAM gold lettering, like the one in the picture.

After some searching and debate, I'm going to paint the lid chevy orange and the cannister chevy blue. I found that I have both of the decals in my assortment of restoration supplies. I have been using the Fram C21 filter for changes, i'm sure that both are the same size and application use. The AC Delco decal has a note on it being used for 55-61 applications. Its not as cool looking as the FRAM decal.
The picture is not mine. It's not GM blue, or F#$d blue nor D*d&@ blue but AC Delco Logo blue. Maybe take it to a local paint store and see if they can do a color match.
