Any Chevy V8 will bolt up, you need the correct bell housing to match the SM420, mine is the original 283 V8 and SM420, all of the Chevy V8's have the same bolt pattern for the trans/bell housing - even my 2000 K3500 6.5 diesel is the same.

Hy marvin ribbich, as 78buckshot has said it is more a matter of having the correct bellhousing to mate any engine to any transmission. In the mid fifties heavier trucks manufactured by Chevrolet and GMC could come equipped with Buick, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile and Pontiac V8 engines As the mounting bolt pattern of the SM420 transmission is shared by many transmissions I would think that there are many non GM engines that could have an SM420 transmission bolted up to them. Hope that helps.

Also all GM inline 6 cyl. Engines. Some BOP bellhousings come with 420 bolt pattern.

No, the V6 bellhousing bolt pattern is different than the V8's. You might have one of the "SAE" style round bell housings on the 350, depending on which transmission you have. There are SAE bellhousings that fit the GM V8's which would adapt them to your transmission, however. Your checkbook is going to need some CPR- - - - -they're scarce and expensive! Jerry

Thanks I have read various articles both ways saying yes and no. My v 6 bell housing is rounded and has the 11 inch clutch, and the transmission is the SM 420 manual 4 speed. Do you know what SAE bell housing I would need and if I can get that housing would the rest of the drive train bolt up, and can I use my original fly wheel
