 54 dash stamping

My 54 3800 CE has a smooth upper dash while my 54 4400 has
Chevrolet stamped into it. Why the difference ???

The "Chevrolet" letters are built into the stamping die, so in my opinion, what you describe would be very unlikely to have came from the factory. Is it possible that someone had filled in the stamped area at some point in the past? Have you checked the dash on the backside to see if you can feel the stamped indentions? Possibly use a mirror and flashlight and or using your hand you can verify that it was never stamped?

It would be much easier to repaint a dash after filling in the recessed letters.

I doubt that it was ever tampered with as this truck was used by RR maintenance of way.
It was purchased by the m-o-w foreman when it was replaced by a newer truck.
He used it to haul salvage lumber from dismantled rr buildings.

What years and what models got the indented Chevrolet in the dash ??? This thread is referring to (discussing) 1954 and 1955 first-series Chevrolet Truck dashes. So, maybe you want to know what model and country (USA/Canada) members' 1954/55st series trucks have smooth dashes or CHEVROLET embossed dashes? All three of my 1954 USA Chevrolet 31XX series trucks how CHEVROLET embossed on the dash (2 Pickups and one Suburban).
