Duh question.....does anyone have a picture or diagram as to where the return spring goes on the brake pedal on my 1940 Chev 1/2 ton. It did not have one when I got it and I can not figure out where the heck it should go.
My manual does not show a picture of where it should go.....Many Thanks for any help!

I'll double check but I am 90% sure it hooks onto your exhaust headers. Mine has a plate with a hole in it.

Actually I was thinking of the gas pedal. Sorry about that. I'll need to check my truck.

I don't think there is a brake return spring. There should be a clutch and gas return. The brake return is usually inside the Master Cylinder.

Mine does not have that tray shown there. Interesting

I can't say for sure about 1940 but in 1941-46 they certainly had a big beefy external return string in addition to the diminutive spring inside the master cylinder. Chevs of the 40's sells one for a 40, incidentally. smile

I agree with you "kingisomer".......Chevs of the 40's does have a spring for a 1940 truck........I finally give up on fining a picture of where it goes and made up my own spring return for the pedal, there is a big hole on the bell housing that I attach a spring to the pedal .......works great.....Thanks for all the inputs!!
Maybe someone with a restored truck will post a picture of the spring return for the brake pedal.......if it should have one.

It actually attaches to the brace mounted to the frame that is also the brace to which the back of the left engine pan is attached.

I have yet to find a location for the brake pedal return spring on my 1946 DP. I have a 3 inch brakcket with the spring but I don’t see how to avoid the clutch pedal and linkage. A picture would be appreciated
