I have a 57PU with 79 camaro front chassis graft and swapping in a BBC with TH400 trans. I am using the camaro BBC engine mounts, but when I lower the th400 at the tail to bring it 2 degrees down my headers sit too low to ground. Is it typical to raise the whole engine/trans combo for better ground clearance?
My trans builder said I need to have the tailshaft slightly down, my trans crossmember is sitting about 6 inches below the frame right now

Who grafted the Camaro subframe to your chassis? The crossmember sitting that low sounds way off to me. I have a 350/350 in a '59 Apache and the transmission crossmember bolts directly to the bottom of my frame.

I don't know that is the way it was, I will take some pictures. It had a 350/350 in it when I got it and the engine was raised up with custom welded stands and the th350 crossmember was lowered 2" below the bottom of frame rails. Wish I could find pictures of how it is supposed to look to compare. Is your trans crossmemeber flush with the bottom of the frame rails or does it have a drop i.e. is the bottom of the trans mounting pad lower than frame rails?
