When I was in high school back before dirt, I had a 1948 Plymouth with a Flathead 6 cylinder. I drove it a football game and after the game the battery was dead. We were parked next to the local national guard parking lot and I was able to borrow one of their 24 amp battery's. I hooked it up to that little Flathead and zippo; it must have turned over at 3,000 RPM'S.

Quick update...……. Took the battery to the store where I bought it 3 years ago and they put it on the charger overnight. Sunday they called to say that the battery took a full charge alright, but when they put a load on it the charge dropped significantly very quickly. In other words, it wouldn't hold the charge and was no good. The employee told me they really didn't expect them to last more than about 3 years. I purchased a new Duracell 6V and installed it. Fired right up. Amp meter shows charging, so hopefully I'm good to go again.

Drove the 37 pickup to a show/corral/Swap Meet Saturday. First tIme I've been to a show or cruise-in for 4 years. Enjoyed the meeting some of my old buddies and renewing some friendships. The 37 still holds up well and took one of the top 20 trophies out of about 50 vehicles that were entered. It was a good day.

Been having a great time driving my 49 3600. I learned yesterday when I ran the casting numbers that somebody has stuffed an older non-synchro transmission in there, so I went from thinking the synchros were trashed and in need of a rebuild - to really learning how to double clutch and having a great time with it.
Unfortunately it has an undeniable rod knock and I'll be addressing that in the spring, but in the meantime I'm running 20W50 and taking it easy. Guaranteeing that crank and rod are toast, I know. Still fun driving it, I can't stand just leaving it there in the driveway. Always lots of thumbs up and smiles.
Today I brought it down to the Rod & Gun club meeting after work:
Driving my 54 is something I do a regular basis, 2 or 3 times a week. I don't know if I would do that if I lived in a big city even though it is pretty much a modern truck under the original body. PS, cruise A/C T5 trans, and so forth. It is nice to hear the reaction people have and the questions they ask.

In honor of Cletus, he and June always made the KC Reunion. They showed up one year with a dead battery. Him and I went out to trouble shoot it and we did the running engine and unhook the battery trick. The engine died so it was the alternator. I went inside the hotel to tell the wife what was going on and when I went back out, the alternator was laying next to the truck. So I grabbed it up and went and got a new one,Cletus thought someone had stole it. Laid the new one where the old one was and went inside. Came back out a little latter and he had the new one installed. And the truck running with a unhooked battery cable.
