Understanding that the intake manifold is a different, is the exhaust manifold the same from the 216 and 261? I found an exhaust manifold but there are issues with it.

Thoughts?

Chris

The 216 manifold has a wider spacing on the studs that hold the two together.

Ok, I measured bolt patterns and unless I am missing something, the only difference I can find is the studs that hold the carb on. The rest appears to be the same.

You should see the bores are different. The later is larger diameter. I had to use the locating rings with the step in them to mate an early intake to the later block.

The early 216/235 dipper engines have straight dump exhaust manifolds versus angled on the insert bearing 235/261.

I'm pretty sure Chris is asking if a 216 exhaust manifold will bolt up to a 235/261 intake. I've got both items handy, and I'll see if it can be done in the next little while. Hands-on information is always better than guesswork, no matter how well-intentioned it might be.

Yes, but, alignment-adapter rings are useful/necessary (for us mere mortals).

one style of rings [ebay.com]

MT might still make these rings? [jalopyjournal.com]

This thread might be useful?

The alignment rings are needed for adapting INTAKE manifolds. Chris is asking about the exhaust.

Yes, Jerry is correct. I am trying to figure out if a 216 exhaust manifold will bolt up to a 261 intake manifold.
