‘52 3100 Worn Rear Axle Shaft

I pulled my axles to replace the bearings and seals and discovered the area where the seal and bearings ride are corroded. Aside from the obvious (replacing the axles), are there any other options?

Is that the actual bearing surface or does the bearing have an inner race? If do, a speedy sleeve would solve the seal problem.

'54 GMC 630 w/ 503 gasser, 5 speed, ex fire truck, shortened WB 4', install 8' bed.
'55 GMC 370 w/270, 420 4 speed, grain, dump bed truck from ND. Works OK.

Or, have them machined to the next smaller inner bearing diameter.

The roller bearings on a 1/2 ton run right on the axle. About the only fix other than replacing the axle is to machine them and put a sleeve on them, although that may not stand up to the load. Sleeves are generally for cleaning up seal surfaces. You could also get them machined,built up with metallizing (a welding type process), and re-machined to the correct diameter. That would probably be more expensive than replacing the axles.
