Wow. What did you do? If it wasnt for that area of rust in the front,bottom of the door, i would of thought it wasnt the same door. Looks great, like it should now.
The golden brown is the original 1963 paint. It was hidden under all that black and white. The cream paint is fresh rattle can that I applied because the factory white accents didn’t survive.
I used Rustoleum rattle can Aircraft Remover to gently strip off the outer layers of paint. It really works well. It sprays on. I hate the slimy gel paint removers. The Aircraft Remover sprays on and bubbles and lifts off the outer layers of paint in about 10 minutes (see 2nd picture). I then wipe it with a dry cloth. Areas that didn’t come clean get a repeat spray. I sometimes needed to scrape the old paint off with a dull butter knife.
Now it looks like a 57 year old door with original paint instead of that mess I had before it was cleaned up.
