1954 Chevy 3800 rear Brake drums replacement

Good day all, hope you are all keeping safe and well!

I wonder if you might be able to help me find something for one of the few Chevrolet 3800 here in the United Kingdom.

My rear brake drums are worn beyond repair, but I can't seem to find replacements. It's on a 1954 Chevrolet 3800 truck, but the axle may or may not be the original.

The drum itself is 14.5 inches inside diameter, the only ones I've seen for a Chevy are up to 12 inches.

Could you shine a light on this conundrum so I can replace the back two with the correct ones.

Please see the photos attached. (Please let me know if you need any more information)

Many thanks, stay safe
Dafydd Williams

hi Dafydd,
sorry for the bad news,
the part is discontinued and there are no sources.
if you find a reproduction source for this part many people would be interested to get some of these drums.

i think it's possible to swap out all the brake parts for the 3/4 ton 12 inch drum onto your existing axle but i haven't had to resort to that yet.
please keep us updated on your progress
best of luck

Hy Chevydafz1, welcome, unfortunately as 2ManyTrucks has said those drums which are only supposed to be 14" inside diameter have been made of unobtainium for years. They were used up to 1959, in 1960 the drums were changed to 13" inside diameter which is much more common, if you could find an early 60s one ton you could get the drums and backing plate and convert to the newer drums. I know it's a long shot where you are, but it is an option.

So the drum is measured between the inside surfaces and your tape is hooked on the outside of the drum. I can't tell by the photo so how bad is the surface?

When I enlarge the center photo the drum looks salvageable.šŸ›
