Hello Everyone! It looks like I'm searching for a unicorn! Early this week I went to repack the front wheel bearings on my 60 Apache 30. I pulled the drivers side hub and found that the outer wheel bearing needs to be replaced. The inner is fine along with both bearings on the passenger side. I went to go find a new replacement bearing but no one could mach the numbers. They told me this roller bearing could be a B-47. No one that I can find has this bearing in stock and they say it's discontinued! My question is there a way I can convert this truck to a tapered bearing in the front or find a source that would have new old stock somewhere? The truck is a dually truck with a dump bed we use a lot on the ranch. Any Help would be most appreciated! JV
Yes, I found that too, unfortunately since the B-47 roller wheel bearing has been discontinued the number has been reissued by Timken and is now a small needle bearing. This makes it even ore difficult to find.
National Oil seals and Bearings used to have a B-47 as well that would work but they have discontinued the bearing as well.
The roller bearing seems to be everywhere on the internet, but when you try to purchase it, no one has any in stock anymore.
I was hoping that there would be a way to cross reference the old roller bearing to something tapered, but I can not seem to find out if they would work on the 1960 three quarter ton or One ton hub and spindle.
The damaged bearing that I have looks ok, except for the cage that holds the ball bearings together.
I also posted a thread on the swap Meet forum and asked about finding a B-47 Wheel Bearing and "Elderly Iron" recommended the following:
"Try Neely Bearing in Grants Pass, Oregon. Long shot, but they sometimes have something obscure laying on the shelf. (541) 476-3289 Don't know if he'll ship it to you, though. If he won't, I can go get it and send it off."
So I contacted Neely Bearing and the gentleman did some calling around and found a guy in California that believes has a bearing that will work. Thanks so much for your post! You may have just saved the day! I've been trying to search for this bearing for a week now and was considering having to convert to a new later model like 1962 front spindles and hubs. Even then I was unsure that the swap would have worked.
I really appreciate everyone's input as well and I'll post back when I receive the bearing and get everything back together.
THIS [ebay.com] guy is in California. This listing is for a B47. Could be it. Anyway, this is THE person to contact. He has 15,500 deals. He WILL know what you need. His name is "LocateBearings". Contact him ASAP. Be ready to give him ID of bearing (cone) and the Cup OD and thickness. I asume you are talking about a tapered roller bearing.
I'm away on an ego trip. Will be back on Feb 30. I'm not an Auto Mechanic, but I play one on TV. I charge $0.02 for every opinion and I take Paypal. Plan B is always better than plan A, by definition.
