My brother is working on a ‘73 Chevelle and is having no luck finding weather stripping for the back doors (yep, it has too many doors). Does anyone have suggestions for a vendor that might have the rubber for that car. He can find almost anything for a 2 door but the supply for the 4 door models seems to be nonexistent. Even Steele Rubber says they have no rubber for the back doors on the ‘73 Model.

Steele may not have a pre cut weatherstrip but I'd be surprised if they don't have a stock weatherstrip that they sell by the foot. Check their stock profiles. If one will work buy enough to do the car.

To back up what Tiny said above. Steele advertises they can supply any car. They have thousands of profiles in their computers. Ask for a catalog of the roll stock items. Cutaway photos are there for him to pick the closest profile to what is on the car and order as many feet as he needs. Their customer service people are trained to handle this very situation.

I was going to say the same thing but I wasn't sure if the original was a molded fitting or not. So I deleted my response.

They were at the Grand National Roadster Show. I shared with them my concern that Classic Parts makes their Suburban side window 3/8" crowned filler piece about a 1/2" too short. They told me I could buy whatever I needed by the foot! Good to know.

You might also check with Metro Molded Parts in Coon Rapids Minnesota. Their stuff is USA made right there and they have a huge inventory. Many years ago I couldn't find weather stripping for a 34 Auburn 4dr of which neither they nor Steele had at the time, not even in bulk. Metro said to send a short piece of the factory strip that they could get a cross section from and the would make an extrusion die to form it. Took about six weeks but worked perfect. It came in a roll so I had to form into place and bond together the ends.

Thanks to all of you for the responses. He’s following up on each one and has a good lead from one of them. Just a surprising side note: he had a customer service rep from one of the best known rubber vendors tell him that Chevelle did not make a 4 door sedan in 1973. Oh well....
