Having a hard time removing the dome light in my 57, I removed the lens, 2 screws but cant seem to figure out how to remove the bulb socket from the wires. There are 2 black wires that go to the bulb base which is attached to the housing. Dont have a picture, but will see if I can get one. BTW I thought the wires should be orange and white?
Cut the wires and splice in the new dome light.Click [classicparts.com] or replace all the wire. Wiring diagram says ORN and WHT but who knows what has been done by previous owner. Does not make any difference which new wire/color goes to which existing wire/color.
BUT not sure what the problem is. Trying to get the whole assembly out to replace with a new one and the wires are holding you back?......or can't get the socket housing to come loose mechanically
Watch out for careful drivers!!! I'm away on an ego trip. Will be back on Feb 30. I'm not an Auto Mechanic, but I play one on TV. I charge $0.02 for every opinion and I take Paypal. Plan B is always better than plan A, by definition. You can't teach a new dog old tricks.
Thanks, just trying to stop the cab to send it to the body shop. I have attached a picture. I’m trying to avoid cutting it if possible, but if that’s the only way I’ll do it. Weird that it doesn’t just unclip
Nothing wrong with cutting the wires. Leave enough for reattachment. Attach something to wires to be able to retrieve them as they fall down. You can try taking the bulb out, then rotating the black contact insulator (bayonet pin), and push it out the front and see if that does anything useful.
