Looking to do an oil change on my 1954 470 with the 302. I’m looking for a oil canister part number. Hoping to grab one from a car quest/autozone/o’Reilly. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

If the filter is the large canister with 2 bands, try a Wix filter 51503.

You probably refuse to believe this. My fathers company A Duda and Sons ran trucks, big Ford semi's and they used a roll of toilet paper as a filter. One of the big trucks got rear ended while dead heading to pick up another radish trailer. It was hit so hard it ruined all of the rear end. Dad gave it to my brother and me and we stripped it of all the good stuff. When we tore into the engine it was very clean (190,000 miles). Still 55 years later I cant believe it. I have it labeled in a box in my parts room. Putting it on a 292 stovebolt in 2 ton 51 GMC. Doc

Toilet paper filter are still available. [google.com]

I never used one, but I never heard bad reviews from people who did/do use them.

Use plain/natural color unscented rolls.

Not sure about the 302 but my 228 used a NAPA Gold 1121 filter. The filter is 3-3/4" in diameter and 6'-0 in height. I no longer have the GMC but have 2 filters I'll let you have for the cost of USPS shipping.
