I like it and always have. No kids or living siblings so different from most. Best times in the shop are from midnight to 6 am and on national holidays. No phones, no people, no waiting on equipment or machines---get more done in one alone period than twice that time when others present. Absolutely couldn't live in a crowded city where there are no open fields, people front, back, and both sides. Like to step out the door and plink the target on the burn barrel with my 22 when the urge strikes. As the song says: I'm country and I like it that way. Do go to Wally World with wife at the 6am-7am Tuesday mornings "old people time" but only because she's too short to reach the top shelves.

thumbs_up I was in direct retail for all my working life. So at Christmas time, we had people demanding delivery on Christmas eve. So when I was asked what I wanted for Christmas I would say just to be left alone. So 18 Years ago she granted my wish and after the shock wore off I was ok with it. She was a person that could not just sit down and I am a sedentary person. So to just and sit and do nothing is a joy to me, especially ar advent of the computer.

I miss messing with my grandkids. We have to be super careful as my wife’s daily meds greatly affect her immune system. No near misses allowed.
I’ve cleaned the garage and basement, smoked some salmon, fixed some sagging planks on the back porch, and done a fast 2.5 mile walk every morning.

Evan, I"m with you. I love "my time" and can work all day in my shop with no problem. Just me and a little golden oldies on the CD player.
My brother would do his "magic" on racing engines after everyone was gone! He'd work till 2 and 3 at night ....and open the shop at 10 or 11 the next day. I think he had it figured out.

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you smile

Alvin, the guy that did my truck worked that way at his home shop. Guys would come by after supper but he could not get anything done but when they left he would get to work. He has sold the retail shop but still works at home the same way.

"Hey! I sound like Darth Vader!!
If I can, I'll get up at 3 am, go in to the shop and get stuff done. After shift, I find I'm more tired than not and not as motivated to work on projects.

I have used this mess as an opportunity to try to clean up my messy shop. Its still a mess, but I have been able to find and fix a bunch of stuff.
That is how my "shop cleanup" operations tend to always end up. I clean until I find something laying around to work on. The "cleaning" lasts about 14 minutes on average.

I miss greeting my friends with a hand shake. Elbow bumps are not worth the effort.
The rest I'm fine with.
