Well. The time has come. My 1950 3800 1 ton with 9 foot bed is up for sale.
Its a rare Omaha Orange color the Vin on the title matches the Vin on the original cab tag
The only rust on it is surface and the corners of the cab.
The bed needs rebuilt. Mar K didn’t have any kits for it at the time I was working on it but they do now.
Comes with the Hot rodeo 261 I built for it. It sprung a leak in the water jacket on the left side. Can be repaired didn’t have the time.
Has a 235 in it now runs and drives

Some details Here

I’ve done a bunch of work on it: [list]
[*]
new Kingpins
New U joints

Jeremy, NICE truck and good price. All and can add is Good Luck with the sale.

Question and you may want to direct me to a thread on the subjects but can you share details or stories on the canvas bed top you ran for a while and on the camper. How'd it pull behind your 3800. I've thought many times about doing the same with my 3600.

Best,

RonR

If they have the box checked in their preferences to receive email notifications they get a notice that there was a reply in their thread. If they don't have that box checked they don't.

The Canvas cover: I used EMT electrical conduit. I was going to bend 90s into each hoop but decided on using straight tubes and buy premodern 90 degree bends and water tight fittings this allowed the whole thing to come off and roll up easy.
so there are 8 90 degree bends and 16 watertight fittings and 12 straight pieces. All of it fits under the seat in a nice bundle. Unfortunately my nieces and. Nephews helped themselves to the pieces and turned them all into swords...

Anyway

The cover is 2 painters tarps sewn together. Put the tarps over the hoops get some BRASS grommets make sure they are brass and not brass colored.... the brass colored ones rust. Ask me how I know. Mark where the grommets go and install them then tie it to the truck.
Now to do the corners... if you did it the way i did I left about 10” over lap so that I could see through the camper out the back and it wouldn’t;t block the window.. if the tarp is tied down and you are sitting inside the camper pull the bunch of material around into the corner so its flat in the same plane as the cab. Now put a spring clamp on it And sew it together with a sewing awl. Just a few stitches should be good. Enough to hold it together and everything stays in shape.

Now you should have all 4 corners done and its tied to the truck! Congrats you have a camper!!!!

Now you’re sittting there thinking hell i could have done this with out your help Jeremy that was really wicked easy.

Well yes its not really complicated... but here’s where. My... ummm expertise comes in...

1- these painters tarps look the part but aren’t even close to being waterproof. So you can do a couple things about that. I used. Heavy landscapers plastic and taped it over the hoops then put the canvas over that. It worked really well. But it meant that taking it off the truck and putting it back on was a bother so it almost never came off. You could use your cover you just made as a pattern for a tent shop to make you a really nice cover.
2- mark where the hoops go and put a strip of material 8” wide across the tarp just to give it some more structure. Or just mark it up and have someone use yours as a template for a nice finished one.

I’m going to see if I can figure out ho to get the email stuff sorted.. for some reason i missed the checked box..

Thanks,

Jeremy
